Committee met via conference calls in February, April and May to move forward with finalizing the poster, design the brochure and discuss concept of the joint workshop with the High School Guidance Workshops. Committee members are willing to join their region’s HS Guidance committee to assist in coordinating this effort. Although not every region is represented on the EA committee, we will make every effort to assist where needed.

HS Guidance Counselor State Committee:  I presented our proposal to the representatives at their March meeting. Representatives in attendance were interested in the joint effort if each region could logistically support the additional attendance. It was suggested that each Rep present this concept at their next regional meeting and then let me know if their region can move ahead with this plan. I followed-up with an e-mail on May 9th to these Reps requesting any feedback. So far, Region 3 has agreed to support the plan . The Region 2 & 8 Reps felt it would be doable although it had not yet been presented to their respective regions. Region 1 Rep. reported that the region had not met yet to discuss. The Region 4 Rep. had changed so a separate e-mail was just sent. The remaining regions did not respond to my e-mail.

Middle School Counselor list:  I was able to secure a list of counselors with Linda Bridgewater’s assistance who contacted  SED.  The number of counselors is over 1600.

Materials: Poster has been finalized and ready to go to the designer at the printer. Brochure is in draft stages. We increased the brochure from 4 panels to 6 panels since we wanted to include more information. I have held up going to print with the poster until the brochure is finalized since the two pieces go hand-in-hand.

For Discussion: In discussion with the State Chair of HS Guidance, it may be reasonable to prepare just one packet of information versus preparing one packet for High School and another for Middle School. Keeping in mind that the target was the Middle School audience, the materials and budgeted costs were only for the middle school numbers. I had budgeted for approx. 2000 counselors- 2000 posters and 200,000 brochures with an estimated cost of $10,000 for this project.

Keeping in mind that not every region may join in the joint effort, and given costs and material content, is expanding to the High School audience a reasonable and appropriate effort in those regions holding the joint workshop?

Respectfully submitted,
