EARLY AWARENESS COMMITTEE
Report to Executive Council , September 15 , 2006
COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
Stephanie Atti (D’Youville) Brian Ghanoo (NSLP)
Laura Burns(Wells) Sherwood Johnson (CUNY Brooklyn)
April Grant (Clarkson) Susan Nesbitt Perez (CICU, Outreach Programs)
LaSonya Griggs (Ithaca) Alice Roberson (HESC, Gear-up Program )
Via e-mail communication during July & August the committee continued to work on finalizing ‘The Path To College’ poster & brochure and discuss plans of the joint counselor workshops and distribution of materials.
Materials: The brochure was printed and shipment sent to various committee members. The brochure arrived in time for the State Fair. The final proof for the poster was signed off for printing.
State Fair: I volunteered at the booth during Higher Education Day. All Early Awareness materials that were designed by our committees (bookmarks, both brochures, and the wristbands) were available as handouts in conjunction with other higher education pieces.
Joint Counselor Workshops: Regions 2,3,4 & 8 have agreed to the joint middle school & high school guidance counselor workshops for this Fall. I have had discussions with each State High School Guidance Counselor committee representative from those regions with regards to topics and planning, and the support available from the Early Awareness committee. Anne Barton, incoming Early Awareness co-chair, has agreed to assist Region2 since we do not have a Region2 representative on our Early Awareness Committee. She also is assisting Regions 2 & 3 as a presentor.
Future plans: The committee members plan to reach out via their respective regions. They will request assistance on a regional level in order to distribute ‘The Path To College’ materials to those middle school counselors who did not attend a workshop.
I’ve included Cathy Patella and Anne Barton in my ‘update’ e-mails to the committee to keep them informed of our progress and assist them with the transition as incoming co-chairs in November.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Teodecki, Chair
