Higher Education Day will be held at the State Fair. There are 18 paying tables at a cost of $611 per table. Early Awareness bracelets and brochures as well as wall charts and wrappers will be distributed.

Everyone will receive an email notice reminding them to renew their NYSFAAA membership which expires on June 30th. Members are automatically added to the NYSFAAA list serve when renewing their membership, but must specifically sign up for the regional list.

I-link audio conferencing service is available to any regional committee wishing to use it. Contact Sam Veeder for more information. NYSFAAA stationery and envelopes are available for regional use. Contact Nancy for more information.

Bill Mack requested and the Council approved and budgeted a request to waive the annual conference fee for one novice member from each region.  The 2006 NYSFAAA Conference dates have been changed to Monday, November 6 to Thursday, November 11, 2006. Novice training was a success with 117 participants. This may have been due in part to the HESC training grants.

Sharon has available the 6th draft of the Reauthorization Position paper. She thanked Irv  Bodofsky and Bill Cheetham for their input. The paper is to be presented in Washington July 20-21.

A recent statewide audit has raised some issues/concerns. NYSFAAA should fit into the 501 C-3 regulations. An outside attorney is being sought to review NYSFAAA practices. Activities on which funds are spent must be in line with the organization’s mission. An outcome of this audit is that one or two regions will be randomly selected each year for an audit.

Some discussion followed on the use of the novice conference waiver for the region. It was decided that Tami Eiklor, as chair of the regional mentor committee, will present a recommendation for the use of the waiver.

The business portion of the meeting was concluded.

All gathered to wish Jan Klotz the best on his retirement. Mike Williams on behalf of HESC presented Jan with a plaque honoring his service. Jim Murphy, Bill Cheetham, John View and Mike McGraw all roasted Jan. Jan spoke about how NYSFAAA and Region 3 in particular have been family. Our best wishes go with you, Jan!

A special thanks goes to Sharon Karwowski for taking notes at this month’s meeting as I was unable to attend.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathy Flaherty

Secretary

Region 3
