Executive Council Report to Region 3

• The last Executive council meeting was in January. I was
unable to attend. As my kids call it the “Death Plague” had me.
Nancy represented us at that meeting. Her report from that meeting
is posted on the web.
• Next Executive Council meeting is April 20th and 21st in
Lake Placid. The site of this Fall’s conference.
• I have made the request for $500 in new membership
incentive from VP for membership Joan Warren. The request read:

If Region III is awarded the $500 grant to use for new member
recruitment, we plan on using this money to fully fund up to 8 new
members at our June Meeting on the 23rd. These 8 members will have
all expenses paid pertaining to the meeting that day (membership to
NYSFAA and cost of attending the meeting).

• I will be presenting the State Fair Proposal to Executive
Council at the April meeting. Please let me know if this is
something your school or institution would be interested in. I will
mail you the slide show. We need to find a few more schools to make
this more cost effective.

• Nancy Teodecki has nominated the State Fair/ Early
awareness event to NASFAA for a State Award for service to families
and students.

Region 3 report March 24, 2006

Intermediate Workshop
March 17, 2006
SUNY Brockport

Attended: 43 Total

Registered but could not attend: 6 (1 lender and 5 schools)

Schools represented: 30

Lenders represented: 13

Attendees came from:
Region 1 10
Region 2 12
Region 3 8
Lenders 13

Respondents to Survey Monkey: 24 (55%) (as of 3/24)
Results from Survey:
• 93% overall positive response to the Workshop
• 1 person was extremely unhappy
• 100 % loved the location at SUNY Brockport.

Sample of Good comments:
• The (Time Management) presentation was very good.
• Good range
• Enjoyed the Time management topic by Debra Eddy
• Great presenters. I really enjoyed the program
• Wish more staff could have gone
• Good topics-do Intermediates more often and rotate topics
to be covered.
• Very comfortable. It was easy to see and hear speakers.
The room allowed participants to see one another and mingle.
• All in all the speakers did a great job of presenting their
topics.

Sample of constructive criticisms:
• Too basic. I was expecting greater detail
• I thought there would be a little more information on nitty-
gritty stuff.
• I wished there was more meat to the material
• I thought the training was rather basic for “Intermediate
Training”

Suggestions on how to improve future workshops:
• A survey asking topics on which people would like to
receive training
• Start earlier and add more presentations
• Offer workshops that are more detailed and present the
topics with more depth and clarity.

I would like to publicly thank Region 3 members who helped with the
workshop:

Judi Miladin our NYSFAAA president did the Welcome

Debra Eddy from USA Funds did the Time Management presentation

Vince Scalise from College Loan Corp. represented Lenders on the
Loan panel

Bill Cheetham from LeMoyne college represented FELP Schools

Sean View for Hobart William and Smith colleges posted the Survey
Monkey for me.

Summery:
It is obvious that this training is needed and wanted.
Intermediated financial aid folks are technicians; they want more
detail and to learn specific skills. We need to provide them with
more in depth training. I think we can do this. I would consider
this workshop a huge success for the first time out in a number of
years.
