EXEC COUNCIL UPDATE   And DISCUSSION TOPICS- Sharon Karwowski

Sharon’s term is ending and she has decided not to run again. She spoke on the importance of this position and how it is the voice for Region 3 at the state level. It provides a great chance for personal and professional growth. The Exec council meets in September, at the conference in October, in late winter for a 2-3 day meeting including a visit with legislators in Albany, and a 3-day retreat in June. You report back to the region and post the report on the Website. You also report at Exec council on the activities of your region. This provides an opportunity to share activities and their success rates throughout the 8 regions.

Sharon led the discussion on the Statement of Principle draft and Proposed Mission Statement. Those in attendance basically agreed with the language of the Mission Statement. Many shared their thoughts on whether various sections in the draft of the Statement of Principle were appropriate for our organization.

Some ideas to strengthen our organization:

  • Bring back membership cards and add the mission statement to it.
  • Discuss the Statement of Principle and Mission Statement at Novice to instill in new members the guidelines of the organization.
  • Reinforce the use of Mentors; our role with bringing in new members.
  • Distribute a brochure about NYSFAAA (who we are and what  we do).
  • Attendance at regional meetings- other opportunities to schedule meetings:

                    After-office-hours meeting/reception

Time set aside at annual conference for regional meetings

E-mail Sharon at karwows@TC3.edu  if you have any comments or ideas.

The meeting adjourned at 12:15 PM.
