Region 3 report to NYSFAAA Executive Council

Our January meeting was primarily devoted to an open discussion
about Executive Council, Statement of Principles, and Proposed
Mission Statement.

There were some very interesting reactions and thoughts from the
participants. Here are some but not all that was discussed:
• There was a feeling the Principles should be overarching
and not too specific. Not so many “don’t” more general
• Some felt that we were over reacting to the MRU up roar and
that we should be focused more on our mission and legislative
responsibilities.
• General consensuses that we need to positively promote
ourselves better then what we are currently doing. Let people know
who we are and what we stand for
• There should be training on ethical standards both at
Novice and the conference.
• Mentoring should focus on the bigger picture of ethical
behavior
• There should be time for a regional meeting at the
conference and possibly state wide meeting at the larger
conferences like Department of Education Fall conferences. To help
promote mentoring and our values
• Mission statement is a run on sentence
• What happened to membership cards and pins? Mission
statement could be on the back of the membership card.

Since I will not be running for re-election I gave the attendees a
profile of what a regional representative is responsible for:
• Attend all Executive Council meetings. Normally these
meetings are in September, NYSFAAA Conference, December, February,
and June. Sometimes there is a meeting in March.
• Attend all Regional meetings. Act as the conduit between
the region and the Executive Council
• Report to the Region and post report to the website in a
timely fashion.
• Report to Executive Council on Regional activities and be
the voice and vote for the region
•
In regards to articles for the Webletter, the region felt that
committee chairs should be responsible to submit a brief article
about their particular event(s)

College Bowl Sunday was discussed. Volunteers were asked to contact
either Rachael or Sharon. Some concern from members that the
schools did not seem to be aware. Not enough publicity. Our
Syracuse time will be from 10-2.
