WELCOME: Sean View

 

Chair, Sean View, started the meeting at 10:10 by thanking Oswego for hosting and introduced the manager of Fallbrook Lodge who gave a brief history of the building and grounds. He then introduced, Robin Jaycox, a special guest. Then everyone went around the room and introduced themselves.

 

EXECUTIVE COUNCIL REPORT: Gina Soliz

 

Gina thanked Sharon Karwowski, the outgoing Region 3 Exec Council Rep for all her hard work. The minutes are on the Website and some of the highlights are:

·        Slate Summit – Bill Cheetham said slate is off to a good start.

·        Training will be offered in different formats such as webinars. Please send any ideas to Gina to take back to Exec Council.

·        NYSFAAA coordinates with SUNYFAP and a notice has been sent out about the SUNYFAP training on October 25th.

·        EASFAA has a webinar scheduled for late fall on “Students and Families: Tackling Financial Issues”.

·        Policy and Procedure manual was reviewed to include the Diversity Committee.

·        Laura Worley is sending out the fall newsletters but is looking for ideas and announcement for the winter edition.

·        Katrina Delgrosso, Development Committee, said NYSFAA members can make individual contributions to the scholarship. Go to NYSFAAA.org and the link is under SUPPORT on the left.

·        College Goal Sunday is February 10, 2008 and there will be a table at the conference for volunteer sign-ups.

·        The Website will be offline in mid November for updating and redesigning. Any minutes before July 1, 2006 will be archived. Training material will be available in a restricted area.

·        Region III is due for an audit.

·        Be sure to check your membership to see if it is up to date and information is correct on the Volunteer Form.

 

Gina also asked everyone to discard any NYSFAA letterhead without Incorporated on it.

 

TREASURER REPORT: Pat Johnson

 

Pat thanked Abbey Linsner for her time served as treasurer. The current balance is $1133.84.

 

 

 

 

 

STATE UPDATE: Dawn Langdon

 

·        The Digital Dashboard is a report which contains information on all loans guaranteed by loan type. It can be accessed by visiting the College Administrators Center, then the Transaction Center using your user ID and password.

·        In compliance with SLATE, HESC has added additional wording to the e-MPN process at the point where a borrower selects a lender.

·        This spring, HESC awarded $1 million to 29 schools to help prevent student loan defaults.

 

SUPPORT STAFF WORKSHOP: Sharon Halpin

 

It will be held November 1st at the Craftsman Inn and the cost is $15 per person. E-mail invitations have been sent out. There will be a session on SLATE, and one on personal growth.

 

GUIDANCE COUNSELOR: Sean for Kate Bellefeuille

 

The Syracuse workshop is set for November 14 at the Fairgrounds. She is working with SUNY Binghamton to set one up down there. If you would like to help with registration, please contact Kate or Sean.

 

DECEMBER MEETING: Jackie Darquea

 

It is set for December 12th at the Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles. John View will present a training session revolving around Conference 2008.

 

NEW BUSINESS – Sean View

 

Sean then asked for volunteers to host future meeting. The following tentative schedule was set up:

            January 18, 2008          -           Colgate

            February 29, 2008       -           LeMoyne

            March 28, 2008           -           TC3

            May 2, 2008                -           CCC?

 

ROBIN JAYCOX SERVICE AWARD PRESENTATION

 

Nancy Teodecki, the 2006 winner thanked the committee and, along with Robin, himself, then presented the 2007 Robin Jaycox Service Award to Abbie Linsner. A standing ovation was held for Abbie and she said she was overcome with the camaraderie of the group.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

CONFERENCE 2008: Bill Cheetham

 

In June a group from Region 3 toured the hotel and facilities. It was decided to give out leather bookmarks at this year’s conference with the date and theme “A Celebration of Education”. He then asked for committee reports:

 

            Entertainment - Shane Rauh & Abbey Linsner

 

Budget issues are driving the ideas. Any member who has had experience from previous conference committees please share.

 

Program committee - Gina Soliz & Sean View

Some suggestions they are working on:
                           -Best FA practices

-Current Issues and hot topics

-Technology and communication

-Personal and professional development.

They are reviewing the comments from the 2006 Lake Placid conference. If you have any names for a keynote speaker and/or would like to be a presenter please let Gina know. They are also thinking of a community service idea or project.

 

            Banquet -Diane Dixon

They are working on the 40th anniversary celebration and going through the archives of the past 40 years of memorabilia. Also thinking of a slide show of pictures.

 

Local Attractions - Brian Levy

Researching the locale and thinking of having an information desk.

 

Registration -    Sharon Karwowski

Still looking for people to sign up. They will look at the 2007 conference registration results.

 

Evaluations - Nancy Teodecki

            May do it on the WEB.

           

Facilities - Mike Pede

            Hotel was sold and may be a name change. Still need volunteers.

 

            Transportation  -

Need volunteers.

 

In conclusion, everyone received a sample of the bookmark (Our Conference 2008 reminder) and said it was a good choice. Conference 2007 attendees will receive these bookmarks on the dinner tables at the Conference Banquet Dinner on Tuesday night in NYC.
