EXECUTIVE COUNCIL REPORT: Gina Soliz

·        The Exec Council has not met since the last meeting. The next meeting will be December 13 and 14 - which is after the region’s Dec. meeting. Please let her know of any issues to bring forward.

·        Be sure to renew membership so our numbers will remain strong.

·        The NY Attorney General has been requesting to attend a general meeting of each NYSFAAA region. They want to know of any repercussions slate has had on services to our students. She will send a message on the list serve requesting “professional” questions to ask when they attend a Region III meeting. .

TREASURER REPORT: Pat Johnson

The current balance is $1123.95. This does not include additional money from the Support Staff Workshop and that bill needs to be paid.

STATE UPDATE: Dawn Langdon

·        The HESC Administrative Workshop in Rochester is Thursday, December 6th and in Syracuse, Friday, December 7th. The workshops will include instruction on many aspects of NYS Grants and Scholarships as well as FFEL program administration.

·        There will be a WEBINAR on December 17th.

·        The default rate of 3.9% is the lowest in HESC’s 34 year history.

SUPPORT STAFF WORKSHOP:  Elizabeth Key

64 people attended including 54 support staff. The topic were well received especially the relaxation. A $15 fee was charged so only $1900 of the $2500 budget was used.

GUIDANCE COUNSELOR:

·        53 Counselors attended the Binghamton workshop and 120 are registered for the Syracuse one.

·        The Syracuse workshop is set for November 14 at the Fairgrounds.

DECEMBER MEETING: Sean for Jackie Darquea

The meeting is set for December 12th at the Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles. The cost is $30.00 for coffee/refreshments in the morning and for the dinner. John View made a motion to set the price at $25 and have the region subsidize $5.00. Nancy Teodecki seconded it. A vote was taken and the motioned passed.

NEW BUSINESS

·        There is EASFAA training in Syracuse on November 29th. $25 fee if member and $75 to include membership

·        Holly Z. said the attorney general’s office is contacting high schools because they want to attend high school financial aid nights. John View announced that he sent the assistant Attorney General a list of his and invited them but has gotten no response. Everyone concurred that they would be more than welcome to view what we do for our students.

·        Gina announced that Sean View received a “rising star” award at the NYSFAAA conference to acknowledge newer members of the group who have risen up in the ranks.

CONFERENCE 2008: John View

The group is working on obtaining information from the 2007 conference. Still looking for people to sign up

Entertainment - Abbey Linsner & Shane Rauh

Though they would like to hire talent from the Region III area, it might be more feasible and cost effective to hire a group from Buffalo.

Program Committee - Gina Soliz & Sean View

·        Still looking for sessions proposals. They will share a preliminary draft at the December meeting.

·        One possible community service event would be to do some fund-raising for On Point for College.

Banquet /40th Anniversary

·        All the past presidents of NYSFAAA have been invited.

·        Everyone liked the idea of giving some of the awards during lunch the day before to shorten the ceremony at the dinner.

After a short break, Abbey Linsner presented a very informative and well organized presentation on RFI& RFP.

The meeting adjourned at 1:30 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Bonnie Rooker
