News and Notes from Executive Council Meeting                         January 29 – 31, 2006

Janet McGrath has replaced Rachel Barker as Region 1 councilperson.

Membership is up; record high of 1304.

 

Regions 2&3 are hosting an intermediate workshop at SUNY Brockport date to be determined.

 

Early Awareness Committee has contacted the NYS Middle School Association. Exploring interest in middle school workshop held at the same time as the high school workshops. Opening topics will address both group’s need; i.e. 529 plans. Concurrent sessions will then be specific to each group. Regions will need more people power to host such an event.

 

Novice Workshop is at SUNY Cobleskill from June 3 -9, 2006. Registration will be limited to 120 attendees. Registration will open around April 1st. Novice workshop will be the first activity that accepts credit card payment

 

Conference 2007- New York City

Sheraton on Broadway is the main hotel site. Bill Mack (CUNY) and Christine Falzarano (Pace Downtown) are the program chairs. Program is being developed like the Access conferences. Session time will be lengthened; at least one hour long. Sunday will be the pre-conference day. The official conference will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday morning and end on Wednesday afternoon.

 

Graduate and Professional Concerns

One half day symposium will be offered as a conference 2006 session.

 

College Goal Sunday is being funded by Lumina; Ken Storms will coordinate first efforts. Wayne Haregood from Kingsborough CC will be the statewide chair. Right now, this activity is being added to CAAN.

 

Elections Committee – need a Region 5 representative

Nominations will be sought for statewide officers (except President-Elect). Consider running for statewide office of Vice President for Membership, Vice President for Professional Development, Secretary or Treasurer.

 

Regional chairs need to develop budget plan for the 2006-2007. This needs to be submitted to the Treasurer.

 

Conference 2006 program and budget has been reviewed. Conference fee will be $250 with $50 late registration fee and $50 late payment fee.
