The opening remarks and welcome were made by Anna Kopit.
Shelley Worrell reported the balance in the checking account as $15,837.57 of which $4,021 was the amount of the most recent revenue share check.
Steve Sweet informed the group that he would no longer be
the HESC representative for
Angela VanDekker gave an update on the Council Meeting and highlighted the following key points:
- NYSFAAA needs to get back to basics by having working committees
- There’s been a change in Exec. Council
-
A site coordinator is needed for the College Goal
Workshop in the Bronx and
- Regions cannot serve lunch at meetings unless it is paid for by the host school
- Two regions may be combined for the upcoming tax workshops
- NYSHESC will host a Slate-Proof Exhibit Hall at the NYSFAAA Conference
- The Cost Reduction Act was signed today
- The interest rate for subsidized Stafford Loans will be reduced to 3.4% in 08/09, for undergraduates only and will then increase to 6.8%
- The Teach Grant is $4,000. If a student doesn’t teach for 5 years within a 10 year period, the grant becomes an unsubsidized loan and the interest is calculated from the day the grant was awarded
- Angela passed the baton to Maria DeInnocentiis
- Reminder for members to renew their membership by November 15th or they will be dropped from all list serves. Members can bay by credit card and checks. If there are any problems with credit cards, Tom Dalton should be contacted. Angela VanDekker should be contacted for check problems
Brian Ghanoo confirmed the following dates for the next three Region VI meetings:
