RE: Proposal to host
NYSFAAA Conference XXXVIII in 2006
The members of Region VIII have looked forward to submitting
another NYSFAAA conference proposal since we last hosted the unforgettable
event in 1999. Many are still talking about the conference of 1999 in breath taking
Lake Placid. Some of you will remember it as the year
that Mother Nature made herself the honorary entertainment chair. She revealed her position the first day of the
conference with an 80 degrees and pristine blue skies to greet our guests. 24
hours later we were hit with a rain/sleet/wind storm that knocked out power for
13 hours and a day later we woke to a few inches of fresh snow. Mother Nature made it obvious that our
scheduled D.J. and a popular band from Rochester
were just not what she had in mind for entertainment. We will invite her back
in 2006 but hope that she will work a bit more as a team player and take our
wishes into consideration rather than taking the entire event into her own
hands!
On behalf of Region VIII, we would like to invite the
membership of NYSFAAA back to beautiful Lake Placid in
2006, November 5th
through the 8th, for another memorable conference. We have been
working with Don Taylor from International Meeting Network (IMT) and he has
secured the site for our proposal. After a visit to the Lake Placid Resort, we
too were sold on its spectacular setting, its 24 multipurpose meeting rooms and
its central location in the heart of this quaint village. I have attached a
copy of IMT’s logistical summary for conference 2006. You will find that the
guest room prices are sure to please even the most frugal. Conference
registration will be taken care of by the Lake Placid Resort. They will also
take the lead for all over flow reservations at the Best Western and either the
Hilton or a newly refurbished Comfort Suites. Conference room space will be
exclusively at the Lake Placid Resort at no charge for usage. Other particulars
are listed on the attachment to read at your convenience.
If granted the opportunity to host Conference XXXVIII in Lake
Placid, our theme will be: NYSFAAA XXXXVIII – Mirroring Excellence
– this of course ties in with the infamous Mirror
Lake that the Lake Placid Resort
overlooks. Conference 2006, if hosted by our region, promises to be another
unforgettable event. The amount of support and number of volunteers that have
already come forward is a resounding, a true sign of a successful event.
We will also utilize the enormous amount of talent that we
have in our region by inviting students from SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of
Music to entertain our guests during one of our receptions. Paul Smiths’
program of Culinary Arts will also be on hand one evening to share a delicious
dessert of their choice to our guests. Olympic athletes will be in town
training and ski jumpers will also be practicing their events using special
made mats during our stay.
As you can see, we’ve only just begun but already have so
many wonderful plans for another unforgettable conference. We thank you for
considering Region VIII as the host of NYSFAAAA’s 38th conference in
2006.
