NYSFAAA, Inc. Region VIII Meeting Minutes

SUNY Canton

February 17, 2006

Members and guest present:  (BJ has the list, which was passed around)

Refreshments served in the Goolden Conference Room at 9:30.  The meeting began with introductions at 10:15 a.m.

1.                    The meeting began with distribution of the minutes from December 2005.

2.                    Suzanne Davis provided the treasurer’s report, including a balance update, financial statements for circulation, and notification of $500 in January revenue sharing.

3.                    Carolyn Corcoran provided the Executive Council update on behalf of Susan Aldrich.  NYSFAAA dues are way up.  Revenue sharing is up among regions 3, 6 and 8.  In addition, credit card payment options for dues and conference charges will be on the NYSFAAA website soon.  Although Visa and Mastercard are the only proposed means for this medium of payment, 12 American Express card holders showed interest in the addition of AMEX at this meeting.  Another item discussed at the Executive Counsel meeting in Albany was the events management function.  The use of this is now highly encouraged.   Joan Warren’s report now reflects 1304 total NYSFAAA members.  Wayne Harewood is the new state coordinator for College Goal Sunday.  Katrina Delgrosso is the new Development Chair.  Region VIII does not have a representative on an early awareness committee, although participation is encouraged based on the growing involvement and interest from middles schools.  Novice training registration starts April 1, 2006 for the session at SUNY Cobleskill on June 6-9.

4.                    NYSFAAA membership policy distributed and briefly discussed.

5.                    Conference registration briefly discussed.  2006 fee is $250 with late registration fees and late payment fees of $50.  Payment will be considered late if made later than one week before the conference begin date.

6.                    There is a Government Relations committee meeting on May 19th.  Contact Jim Vallee for further information.

7.                    Bonnie Evans provided a HESC update.  0405 TAP is closed out.  Information provided regarding APTS, the new HESC PIN, the Training Grant, etc.  Contact Bonnie for a copy of the handout.

8.                    Holly Zaglaniczny from EDamerica spoke about College Aid Awareness Nights.   Details provided on dates, times, locations and number of attendees.

9.                    Katrina Delgrosso provided the membership update.  Region VIII consists of 103 members, an estimated %35 to %40 of these members are school employed.

10.                 Because EASFAA will be held May 7-10 and the Federal Relations committee will be gathering on the 18th and 19th, the next region VIII meeting is proposed for April instead of May.  Tentative plans for April 20, 2006 at the Crowne Plaza are in place.  BJ Revill to follow up.

11.                 Lender updates:  Charlie Boland, Bank of America noted that B of A will have zero fees as of May, 2006.  Anne Barton, NSLP provided handouts with detail on NSLP’s professional development webcasts.

12.                 At 11:15 a.m., sub-committee meetings were held until an early lunch at 12:00.

13.                 Fellow colleagues departed gradually beginning at 12:30 as weather conditions and road closing reports became ominous.

Respectfully submitted by Charlie Boland on behalf of Pat Farmer, Secretary.
