SCHOLARSHIP NOMINATION FORM
SCHOLARSHIP FACT SHEET

Dear NYSFAAA Colleague,

It is that time of year when we advertise the application and awarding of the NYSFAAA George Chin Memorial Scholarship.  We award a scholarship in each of the five categories of institutions (i.e., public 2-year, private 2-year, public 4-year, private 4-year, graduate).

YOUR SUPPORT IS ESSENTIAL TO KEEP THIS EFFORT GOING

We need your help!  Over the years, your contributions have helped students fund their education. The challenges of paying for college are many and are even more so now with the financial impact of COVID. We are hoping you will join us in this effort!  Making your contribution is now faster and easier than ever before. Visit the new tab on our website to make a check or credit card gift. We are grateful to all of our members who donate to the scholarship fund. Just $5.00 from each member will have a huge impact.SCHOLARSHIP DONATION

Although we will not be able raffle off your creative, beautiful regional baskets this year, we are still going to hold a virtual raffle. We are asking that each region donate an e-Gift Card instead of a regional basket. You will not want to miss your chance to win one of these e-Gift Cards! As the saying goes, you have to be in it to win it!  Keep your eyes open for more information on this.

THE SCHOLARSHIP PROCESS:

  1. Review the NYSFAAA Scholarship Fact Sheet, which is located on the main homepage, member homepage and the conference mini-site of nysfaaa.org.  Become familiar with the scholarship process and criteria.
  2. Identify a deserving student (or one at each degree level in your school) who meets the criteria.
  3. Print or download the Student Scholarship Application above.
  4. Have the student complete their portion of the application.
  5. A financial aid administrator completes the school section of the application.
  6. The application must be submitted electronically to the Committee Co-Chairs no later than October 9, 2020You determine the date the applications are due in your office.  That date should be early enough to give you time to review the applications and complete the Administrator’s section.

When students sign the application, they are giving their Financial Aid Office permission to release their academic and financial aid information to the Scholarship Committee.  They are also giving the committee chairs permission to access NSLDS to obtain information about the applicant’s federal loan indebtedness.  Finally, the student certification will allow the publication of the names of the students who are selected for this award.
