Award Winning NYSFAAA

Novice Training Program

June 7- June 11, 2021

The New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association, Inc. will hold its 50th annual Novice Training Workshop from Monday, June 7 - Friday, June 11, 2021 as a virtual event.

This workshop has been primarily designed for financial aid personnel with less than one year of experience. We encourage admissions and enrollment management personnel, as well as others who would like to gain a complete, comprehensive understanding of financial aid administration to enroll. This year, because it is virtual, we are opening it to the entire nation. What you receive for your money is unbelievable. Read on.

This year the program provides five half-days of intensive training on the administration of financial aid. Training is structured in formal, large group presentations and informal small discussion groups.  This gives participants a detailed overview of each topic, followed by the opportunity to discuss special points of interest and to apply their new knowledge using case studies.  All participants are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity for professional growth through group and individual interaction.  The training begins on Monday and will run from 1:00pm to 5:00pm; Tuesday through Friday will run from 9:00am to 1:00pm.  Full-time participation in the Workshop is expected of all attendees.

A certificate will be awarded on the final day of the workshop, acknowledging active and successful participation in the program. This participation includes attendance and written/oral interaction within each session (formal and informal groups).  A written test will be administered and the results will be used in conjunction with staff critique to determine each participant’s evaluation.

NYSFAAA has purchased licenses to ZOOM and WHOVA. This will make your experience interactive and provide networking capability. We have scheduled in networking time before, during, and after each day of the conference. The platform will enable you to schedule breakfast, coffee and lunch meetings with other FA Professionals in-between sessions.

*NYSFAAA membership comes with a lot of value. Our Statewide Training alone provides 10-12 timely professional webinars a year. This past year we provided an additional 10 NASFAA credentials free, via webinar, to members. We have a COVID-19 FA page that is constantly kept up to date. Want to know where the information is? Go no further than the NYSFAAA website (available for members only).

**Conference – This year our virtual conference may be the most robust conference we ever had. Five NASFAA sessions, including a Federal update from Justin. Three sessions from former Deputy Secretary of Education Chris McCaghren. Moreover, of greatest importance to you – we want our conference to be a continuation of your Novice experience. Therefore, there will be a novice track at the conference. To ensure your attendance we are giving it to you free.
